Edu-Gov was born from a passion for building and developing effective governing boards, a flair for recruitment, and a belief that people and culture matter in education governance. It was founded by Richard Ellam LLB LPC, a legally qualified, experienced governance recruiter, practitioner, consultant, academy trustee, school governor and chair, who supports local and national governance at all levels, having worked with many of the largest MATs and local authority governor services nationwide.

Richard started Edu-Gov in 2022 to help quickly and effectively transform governance in schools and academies alongside “the day job” he had as the Head of School and Trust Support at Inspiring Governance, the DfE-funded national school governance recruitment service. Since Inspiring Governance shut-down, he has continued to expand Edu-Gov’s leadership and development work, but alongside providing a greater focus on meeting the sector's need for a high-quality, good-value, and affordable bespoke education governance recruitment solution in a landscape where paid-for governance recruitment is becoming more common and government funding to support free governance recruitment no longer exists.
